Formaform is a synthetic, rubber-like molding compound that is melted like wax in a water bath on a hot stove and then immediately ready for molding. For this purpose, the liquid molding material is poured directly onto the pattern placed in the mold molding box, where it immediately flows evenly, thereby creating the desired shape. Only 30 to 40 minutes later, the molding mixture is cooled and can be removed from the model as a finished mold. However, it must then harden for another 1 – 2 hours before it can be used for molding. Formaform is a versatile molding compound with unique application options. Compared to silicone, it is cheaper, also because the failed mold can be melted down at any time and used to make a new one. To do this, the unsuccessful mold is cut into small pieces with scissors, melted and used again for mold casting. Shortly after, the perfect shape is ready. Recycling of this material is possible up to 6 times. However, the disadvantage is that the mold can only be used once, as it is not resistant to either heat or water. But this can also change: in order to be able to be used repeatedly as a silicone mold, it is impregnated with Formaform Thermolan, which is also included in the package. It is then thermo- and waterproof and can be used several times (10-20 times). However, through impregnation, it loses its property of melting. The mold made of Formaform is medium-hard and has good mechanical strength values, which is why molds from all ceramic casting mixtures, polyester and epoxy resins, wax, casting soap, gypsum and cement, etc., can be cast into it.
