The Lamour varnish of the French company Charbonel is designed to work with the graphic technique of etching.
Lamour asphalt varnish is composed of waxes and resins and has a dense and rigid structure. It is applied using a roller to a preheated metal plate. The combined action of heat and the pressure exerted by the roller soften the varnish and it adheres to an even and dense matte-black layer on the plate, making it an ideal base for painting with engraving tools.
It is important that before applying asphalt varnish, the metal surface that will serve as a base is cleaned of greasy imprints, as they would prevent the melted varnish from adhering to the plate.
